" A GREAT TEXT AND GUIDE FOR HUMAN MIND"

Image
Introduction
The Bhagavad Gita is a dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjuna, narrated in the Bhishma-Parva of the Mahabharata. It comprises eighteen chapters of a total of 701 Sanskrit verses. Considerable matter has been condensed and compressed within these verses. On the battle-field of Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna, during the course of His most interesting and instructive talk with Arjuna, revealed the profound, sublime and soul-stirring spiritual truths, and expounded to him the rare secrets of Yoga, Vedanta, Bhakti and Karma. All the teachings of Lord Krishna were subsequently recorded as the Song Celestial or the Bhagavad Gita by Sri Bhagavan Vyasa for the benefit of humanity at large. The world is under a great debt of gratitude to Sri Vyasa who has presented this Celestial Song to humanity for their daily conduct in life, spiritual uplift and Self-realisation. Only those who are self-controlled and are endowed with faith can reap the full benefit of the Gita, which is the Scienc…

"BY MIND ALONE COULD THIS ( BRAHMAM ) BE OBTAINED"

Image
1. Meditation is the process by which the mind soaring over the summit of the spiritual enquiries loses itself into nothingness.
2. Like the mythological bird, phoenix, which singing its death song, falls down to die in a mass of fire;
3. the mind, out of its own ashes, rises up to a new faculty called intuition, which is the instrument with which the seeker ultimately knows the Self.
4. When mind has thus ended, through meditation, and the Self has become fully aware of itself, then there is no difference here at all.

"RITUALS"

Image
1. When your son is in the elementary classes, you have to insist that child should daily read and learn the multiplication table.
2. When he has come to the standard of pure mathematics, it would be absurd if you are to insist  the study of the table.
3. In the primary classes, arithmetic-table is to him, but in the college-classes, it is redundant.
4. Similarly, rituals have an elementary purpose, without which nothing higher possible;
5. but to continue wasting the entire life in mere ritualism, would be terrible wastage,
6. and hence Sruti is trying down such wasteful policies, in the spiritual practice.

"IGNORANCE"

Image
1. The forgetfulness of our Divine nature is Ignorance.
2. Thus Ignorance ( avidya) manifests itself in the mental plane as desires.
3. Prompted by these desires the mind whips the sense-organs to run their errands in the world of their objects which together are called the Karmas or the Actions by us.
4. It is the 'ignorance'in the plane of the spirit that gets transformed into "desires"in the outer world-of-objects.
5. Ignorance, desire and action------these three are technically termed as the "Knots of the Heart" ( Hrdaya-granthi ) in Vedanta.
6. It is this set of knots that causes the actions; and man, in order to reap the results of his actions, is compelled to take various new forms and independent lives, in varied circumstances of uncertain joys and endless sorrows.

"JOY OF GODHOOD"

Image
1.Self-realization and the consequent  Joy of Godhood are denied to him:-

a). Who has not turned away from acts of Adharma,
b). Who has not brought his senses under control,
c). Whose mind has not, therefore, gained any tranquillity to concentrate; and
d). Who has not found in his mind a peace within itself, because of its thudding palpitations and anxieties  regarding the fruits of its actions.

"VASANAS AND IMAGINATIONS"

Image
1. Vasanas: Accumulated impressions of our culture ( samskaram),
2. Vasanas: Four types, they are:
a). Janma vasana ( by birth), b). Matha&Pitha ( parents)( kulam), c). Samooha vasana ( from society), d). Anubhava vasana ( experience)
3. Vasanas turn into desires and unfulfilled desires are the products of the past,
4. These vasanas will be followed in janmam (birth),
5. This Janmam ( the present) is available for correction and change the past with the help of intelligence..............................................................................................................
6. Imaginations: three types,
a). Self imagination, b). Imagination to influence and control others, c). Imagination of a God outside to listen, and solve your problems.
7. Ground reality :  a) Self : I know everything and I am OK and others are not OK: this is false in reality. b). As each mind is unique, independent, and different, hence in realty influence and control is not possible. c). There is no God out…

"LIGHT-POWER-WISDOM-SOURCE"

Image
1. When a seeker has developed his power of concentration, he enters, by degrees, into the higher stages of meditation advised by the Sriti, in the various Upanisads,
2. and he ultimately  come to realize his own identity with his own Atma, the light-power-wisdom-source within himself.

"WE ARE CARELESS"

Image
1. In our life, ordinarily, we are careless, and under the instructions of an impure intellect, we run a muck among the sense-objects whipped by the lashing strokes of an uncontrolled mind's vicious urges;
2. panting, and exhausted, weary and fatigued, emaciated and weak, the so-called  man-of-the world lives a life of unrest and disappointment,
3. even though he is housed in a place, clothed in silk and rolling in a feather bed!
4. None of the material successes and no amount of sense-objects can give a shattered human personality any taste of the real joy and godly peace,
5. which are the birth rights of a full-grown man.

"THE ONLY MIND"

Image
1. You know mind is Brahmam; for it is from the mind that all these living beings are produced,

2. being born from it, they all live by it,
3. and on departing,
4. they enter into the mind and become one with it.

"BEYOND THE OBJECT IS THE MIND"

Image
1. Mind is certainly much more subtle than the causes of sense-organs.
2. But for the mind, the sense impulses reported by the sense-organs as they come in contact with the sense-objects would not have been registered and synchronized  together to give us total impression of the objects, as the table, the chair, etc.

"SOLE WITNESSING FACTOR"

Image
1. "Since the Self ( mind) is not polluted by our criminal intentions, low lustful desires, jealousies, and selfishness of our life,"
2. ( "Just as the street light is untouched by the varied scenes it comes to illuminate" ),
3. The Atma ( Chaithanyam within ), as the sole 'Witnessing Factor' is indeed ever pure.

"TYPIST OR PRESIDENT"

Image
1. If you are  only a typist you have only desired with sufficient potency to become only a successful typist.
2. If you can can desire yourself to become the President of this country, with the required consistency of purpose and sincerity of devotion, and maintaining this idea can faithfully work up to it without any contradictory desires reaching your mind to dissipate the mental energies,
3. The mind's Gene shall carry you ultimately in a flying carpet, and in Delhi, you shall sit in that august chair-------and perhaps regret its pin-pricks!

"ALL OUR GODLY POTENCIES WITHIN"

Image
1. A mind tossed by contending thoughts or a mind plagued by an eruption of pox-like desires is the mind that is weeping over its own impotency!.
2. If a single pointed mind can wish for anything to the exclusion of any of her contending thoughts or desires, it shall at once be fulfilled.
3. Meditation viewed in this sense is a technique of controlling, conserving, preserving and directing the mental dynamism through a chosen channel of application.
4. One who is well versed in this technique and has, therefore, a complete control over his mind is a God upon earth whose wishes become, as they cross his mind, accomplished facts.
5. It is because of our own mad thinking that we are exhausting in vain all our Godly potencies within.

"MIND THE RULER"

Image
 1. We know that the mind, in its function of reception  and correlation, is the ruling and governing factor of all the sense-organs.
2. In that case, the Upanisad accepts the mind as the king of the Indriyas and naturally, its presiding deity becomes none other than Lord Indra, the king of Devas.
3. Briefly then the conscious actions, performed with a deep desire to gain the fruits thereof, develop the necessary traits and impressions in the mind plane.
4. That the outward actions leave a clear trail upon the mental stuff, seems to be hint suggested by the secret meaning of the Upanisad mantras.

"FORWARD AND BACKWARDS"

Image
1. If you start from your home to the office/work place and your way allow yourselves to be a slave to your indecision and thus start walking forward ( as the thought of duty calls you to job),

2. And backward ( when the thought of the joys of spending with your guests at home pass through your mind),
3. Then, even late at night you shall be walking, having reached neither the office nor the home!
4. The only way to reach the office is to maintain the desire to reach the office constantly in the mind and physically working for it,
5. Ignoring, and thus controlling, all other dissimilar thought waves.

"GREAT DYNAMO OF SUPERHUMAN ENERGIES"

Image
1. The human mind is in fact a great dynamo of superhuman energies and Godly powers.
2.Yet we find that the ordinary human being is a slave and servant of his own mind rather than a master of it.
3. In a way we may say that a similar tragedy has happened to man in the outer world too, especially in our Machine Age.
4. The engines conceived of by man to work for him, have now become the very tyrants and iron-hearted  masters at whose ever-revolving wheels, man is today a helpless slave.

"SAT-CIT-ANANDA"

Image
1. The eternal Sat-Cit-Ananda alone is the world and the ego-centric-idea of our separatist existence is only a super-imposition upon the Truth.2. They are false.
3. Plurality  is a sad delusion.
4. The "ONE" alone is Real and True.

" HEALTHY MIND "

Image
1. Experiences come and go in a strong mind.( not affected by this flow of experiences)
2.Whereas the mind which is under captivity of experiences is the weak and unhealthy mind.

"IMAGINATION"

Image
"Imagination causes, 1.Doubts, 2. Sorrows, 3. Fear."Therefore do not fall into imaginations.

"MIND"

Image
The mind has been explained in our sastras in different ways:-1. According to one definition, the mind is nothing  but a bundle os vasanas ( impressions ).
2. To the modern psychologist, the mind is nothing but "temperament."

"THE MIND IS THE UNCEASING FLOW OF THOUGHTS"-

Image
1.The cessation of thoughts  brings about the Knowledge of the power behind the mind.2. The process of restricting the area over which our thoughts roam about can be achieved by regular and continuous practice of Japam (Chanting of mantrams or Lord's names, etc), Dhyanam (Meditation) etc.3. Japam and Dhyanam, which limit our thoughts and concentrate us on Japam and Dhyanam.
4. This practice  helps us in transforming our character.5. We are the product of thoughts. 6. What we think we become.7. The nobler our thoughts, the nobler we become.(Kenoupanisad).

"POSITIVE KNOWLEDGE OF NEGATIVE IDEA"

Image
1. Do you know the date of birth of  King Asoka?
2.Your immediate answer is NO! NO! NO!
3. What exactly happens, in you as you say that you don't know?
4.When the question is asked: You starts to find this information in your memory-store and finding that it is not there, you answer "I don't know."
5. Here you had a positive knowledge of the negative idea, "I don't know."
6. A positive illuminating factor ( Chaithanyam ) illuminated, this negative idea for you.
7. This factor is 'TRUTH.' ( knower of the unknown).
8.Examples:-
a). Sun being of the nature of light, not illuminate himself, but illuminates others by removing darkness.
b). Fire illuminates and burns other substances, but not itself.

( Kenopanisad).

THOUGHTS:-

Image
Place of  Worship:- (present day)Blind followed by blinds without any reasoning and knowledge.Problems and Solutions:-Both from the mind!Love:-Physical level is short and Atma level is long lasting.Body:-We have no control on our body.Time has full control.Mind:-1. Hang, 2. Imagine, 3. Develop stories.OUR ACTION:-1. Drop imagination, 2. Divert attention, 3. Dedicate.

"SIX VIRTUES/TREASURES OF SELF CONTROL"

Image
1.These virtues form the ethical foundation of the spiritual life.2. Their practice prepares the inner faculties for the cultivation  of higher knowledge.3. Those virtues are :-a). Sama---Control of mind.b). Dama---Control of sense-organs.c). Uparati---Equanimity of mind.d). Titiksha---Forbearance.e). Samadhana---Concentrating the mind on Truth.f). Sraddha---Active faith in the Teacher and Scriptures.

"DREAM":-

Image
1. While dreaming, though the dream is perfectly real to the dreamer, in fact we all know that the dream world is nothing but a mental creation of the dreamer himself.2. During waking state, while experiencing the world of sense-objects, the mind gathers impressions and during the dream, one part of the dreamer's mind observes the impression-chart in another portion of his own mind!  3. The dreamer ( the Taijasa), therefore, enjoys Sushma Loka ( subtle world) of objects. Thus Taijasa ( dreamer) has for its sphere of activity the world of dreams.

"ARISE"AND "AWAKE":-

Image
1."Vairagya":-
Rude shock in life such as loss of property, sudden bereavements, disappointments, in love and such other causes may temporarily make us realize the falsity of the values lived by us in our day-to-day life of competition and selfishness. Man, under this stress in life, comes to entertain, a seemingly healthy 'vairagya'!2."Passing mood":-
But this is only a passing mood. In many of us this mood does come at some time or other, but soon it passes of us as an impotent impulse. This state, temporary opening of our mind to the hollowness of life as lived by us, is here indicated by the term:- 'arise'.
3."Arise and Awake":-
At this state, the seeker is not fully aware of the very change that has taken place in him. Hence the Rishis warns "awake"; meaning that the one who has, under the lash of circumstances, come to accomplish the command "arise"should try his best to come to a fuller realisation of what actually h…
